The opening of your pitch

There are many strategies to consider in opening your pitch. Think about it twice, because those first minutes can make or break you.

Overview

Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.

Leonardo da Vinci

You have something to say? Let's make sure it gets the chance it deserves.

Pitching business ideas

Pitching business ideas is becoming more of an art. Given how easy it is to get distracted as a human being, you must learn the best ways to captivate your audience from the start. To do this, some strategies have been proven to work.

Too many presenters start with the typical introduction and dive right into the sections of the business. Then they state the problem, then the solution, the team, and so on. This is a surefire way to kill the entire room from boredom. Instead, grab the attention of your audience from the beginning and don’t lose it until the end.

Captivate the audience

There are some strategies and structures that have been proven to work. No single one is best, so it is important to them wisely. Most of them have one thing in common; they raise the level of curiosity right from the beginning to the max!

Benefits go into the opening of your pitch because the most important thing your audience will think is; “What’s in it for me?”. The only thing your audience cares about is; “Will this work for me?”.

When pitching someone, it is easy to just start blurting out your idea and delving straight into the details. But just because you are partial to a particular design or style does not mean others will share your sensibilities.

Think twice

There are many strategies to consider in opening your pitch. Think twice, because those first minutes can make or break you.

Regardless of the strategy, the direction of what you want to say should be heavily influenced by the takeaway.

The takeaway is that one thing you want the prospect to remember after listening to your pitch. It needs to be significant to the client. And hopefully, it will differentiate you from competitors.

Develop the takeaway by asking yourself what is the one thing that could be most memorable about what you want to say. Then ask yourself why you want that point to be remembered. Keep asking that question of every answer until you are expressing what the benefit of the takeaway is for the client. Then build your opening around that.

There are lots of reasons you might not win a pitch, because of the price, personal chemistry, and your background. But, you should never lose a pitch because you presented poorly.

Preparation of important speeches and presentations

Those who do not speak are not heard, and even those who speak up are not always successful. There are a few more steps that need to be mastered.

Do you want to convince with your message and also as a personality? Then I will help you to prepare your speeches and presentations. You determine the scope. At least, I recommend a test run with professional feedback for you and your message. Then you will know how you and your content are perceived, what you should do, and what you should leave out, where there is potential. Why do you want to get such helpful feedback so late after your real performance? Then it is too late for adjustments. Benefit from the advantage. My definition of luck: Preparation meets opportunity.

You can best estimate for yourself where the effort is worthwhile concerning the expected benefit. Here you will find the fees for my support (communication, psychology, language, structure, voice, body language, storytelling, rhetorical means, media such as PowerPoint and Co., etc.)

You are not in Berlin right now? Then choose meetings with me via telephone or video support. Whereby, there are quite good reasons for a trip to Berlin.

By the way, many people suffer from such intense stage fright in front of an audience, and therefore their performance lags behind their possibilities. Too bad, because with my help performance in a good condition is possible. Just in case...

A good start: Professional feedback with suggestions for improvement

What may cost the preparation of a presentation, which effort is justified?

What May Cost The Preparation Of A Presentation, Which Effort Is Justified?

The ratio of benefit to effort
blank

The effort to prepare speeches and presentations

It’s the opportunity you’ve been preparing for. The keynote, the boardroom presentation, the sales pitch. This could be the moment that changes everything. Don’t leave it up to chance. If you expect something from a presentation, it pays off to prepare accordingly. With a convincing presentation, a lot can be achieved and investments are worthwhile. Which effort is worthwhile?

You have something to say? Let's make sure it gets the chance it deserves.

Do you prefer your speech or presentation to be nice or remarkable?

We are not very demanding in Germany when it comes to the quality of speeches. We seem to have a certain willingness to suffer. How do you prefer speeches and presentations?

Affordable, nice, all right, or impressive? How do you want your speech or presentation? As so often, this is a matter of priorities, effort, opportunities, and risks. Investing requires thoughtful decisions. Why do more than necessary?

How about a remarkable speech?

In a good presentation, a message is prepared and presented so interesting that it can be viewed from many angles. Thus, a presentation will inform, inspire, and add value to the audience entertainingly.

A large part of the fascination of remarkable presentations is based on the fact that committed speakers make an above-average effort in the preparation of your contribution.

Some selfish speakers focus on audiences to present themselves. Excellent speakers make a much better impression because they also think about their audience. Their main goal is to make the benefits and experience as good as possible for the audience. For this purpose, they are ready to make their contribution and to create the conditions.

The effort in the preparation of presentations

Numerous sources describe the effort with which presentations are prepared, for example, in the Keynotes of Apple. The immense investments in time and funds have paid off there.

Not every one of us has such resources available. I often wished for a different budget, especially in the graphical presentation of my presentations. Investments should be evaluated in the ratio of expenses to earnings.

Which effort is worthwhile for the preparation of a presentation can only be answered individually. However, if you expect something from a presentation, with a convincing presentation that can be achieved a lot, it is worth preparing accordingly.

How much do mediocre speeches and presentations cost you?

Settling for run-of-the-mill speeches is costing you. People aren’t hearing you and because of that, you’re missing out. You’re missing out on new customers, on that promotion you’ve been waiting for, and on opportunities to educate and motivate. That is a pity!

How about your core message? Simplicity and impact in speeches and presentations.

How About Your Core Message? Simplicity And Impact In Speeches And Presentations.

Have a key message
Simplicity And Response

Focus on the core of your speech: The key message

Key or core messages create focus, control, and intensity in influencing your target audiences. How to create compelling key messages in speeches and presentations.

The focus in speeches and presentations

In speeches and presentations, it happens often. One exciting idea, then another, and another and another… Pretty soon, the audience is more or less confused. It’s important to remember that your audiences have short attention spans. We all do. Your messages need to cut through all the noise.

Many public speakers forget to choose carefully the big point, the core message — the heart, soul, and center — of their speech.

With a core message, your messages will stay on track and make sure you’re communicating the right thing to the right people.

Simplicity and response

Simplicity and response are qualities that measure the true value of any work of art.

Frank Lloyd Wright

This is also true for a good speech. Making a presentation simple requires more thinking than just talking around. You might be concerned that in your quest to make your presentation simple, you’ll dumb it down. Yes, simplicity is a complex undertaking. You cannot reach simplicity without understanding the complexity and subtleties of your topic.

Your job is to make the complex easily graspable to your audience by arriving at that simplicity. Therefore, you have to know your audience well enough to craft a presentation that clearly and effectively helps make their lives better in a way that matters to them. So you need to know what your audience desires and connect that with your expertise, as a starting place.

The core message of your speech

The core of your idea is the core of your presentation. Express that core in one simple and specific sentence, as the core message.

Step by step:

1. Know your audience

Do a thorough audience analysis so you’re intimately connected with what this audience needs and desires.

2. Sync

Look for the areas within those audience needs and desires that sync up with your rooftop message. How can you genuinely and significantly help your audience with your expertise?

3. Voila; the core message

Craft a core message as a promise. Have a core message that solves a problem your audience care about, and build your presentation around that promise.

Make sure that the core message focus on your audience instead of yourself.

So what?

Strive to make sure your key points and especially your core message truly sink in and avoid anything that doesn’t directly support those key messages.

A good core message…

  • … is clear, concise, compelling, with a strong call to action.
  • … concentrates on the core.
  • … is short and focused.
