The first
five minutes or even less is the most critical period in an encounter
between two people is. The first impressions formed in this time will tend to persist and even be reinforced by later behavior, which will tend to be interpreted not objectively but in the light of these first impressions. We tend to
note the occasions on which our first impressions of people were
mistaken and had later to be revised because there are so few of them.
